The only downside is that the recommended 20-watt USB-C charger is sold separately. It involves a power transmitting pad and a receiver, sometimes in the form of a case attached to a mobile device or built into the phone itself. (Pocket-lint) – Wireless charging has been around for a good while now, but it’s only in the last couple of years that it’s started to take off. More and more manufacturers have been getting on board with the ubiquitous Qi wireless charging standard and the tech is now inside virtually every flagship phone. Over the past few years, wireless charging technology has come along way and is genuinely really useful nowadays. It’s an easier way to charge your smartphone, rather than constantly plugging it into a wall-based power socket, and you can just drop-and-forget your phone and come back to it topped up.

I really wanted this to work out but unfortunately, it has not been reliable when charging my iPhone11 in the Otterbox+Pop Symmetry case, even with the pop socket removed. In testing I’ve been doing, I’ve seen similar, and much worse, results. I’ve seen some charger/phone/alignments push those inefficiencies to over 100%. Thicker cases can also cause longer recognition time and therefore longer time to beep. Recalibrate if necessary to improve sticker position or center your device on the sticker more accurately to get a better alignment.

Like other wireless car chargers, this one affixes to your air conditioning vent, your dashboard, or your car’s windshield with a suction cup base, but what makes this one different is how you attach your phone to it. Most wireless car chargers feature claw-shaped designs that grip your device and may even scuff their leather cases. Scosche’s mount resolves this issue entirely with the use of magnets. The iOttie is powerful enough to charge your phone even through a thick leather case, it’s backed by a 2-year warranty, and it includes a lengthy microUSB charging cable. You might worry that, since the charger is by Samsung, it is only compatible with Samsung phones. This charger is compatible with any Qi-compatible smartphone, including the iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and X. I also don’t like the fact that this charger isn’t very case friendly. Any phone case thicker than 2 mm will give you some serious problems when you try to charge your phone. You would also have to take off the back of the phone if it is metallic.
